Welcome To Takena!

Built in 1971, Takena Elementary School is in its fourth decade of proudly educating Albany children. Located on a 4.5 acre campus, Takena serves students from Albany's historic downtown neighborhoods.

Our School Is Proud To Offer

Strong Reading and Mathematics Program
Takena students performed wonderfully on the Oregon State Assessment Tests in 2007-2008. Our students exceeded the district average on seven of the eight test categories: reading (3, 4 & 5), math (3, 4 & 5) and science (5). Out of 13 elementary schools in the district, Takena was in the top five in four categories. Great teachers and great students working as partners in the learning process have delivered great results.

Reading and Math Support
Our reading/math specialist facilitates a reading and math program that places all students in small groups for daily reading and math instruction at the instructional level of the students.

Music Instruction
A music specialist provides weekly instruction for all students. Takena is privileged to continue supporting our performance choir club consisting of 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, which practices two days a week before school.

Our Teachers
At Takena we are very proud of the quality of our teachers that educate your children. If you would like to know more about your child's teachers qualifications, please give us a call, we would be glad to answer any questions that you may have.

Character Education
We are in our second year of implementing the Positive Behavior Support (PBS) program. We have a PBS team that plans a variety of classroom and school-wide character education activities emphasizing positive behavior in and out of school. We are strong believers in the three Wolf Pack Rules: Be Safe. Be Respectful. Be Responsible.

Recycling Club
Fifth grade students oversee the school's recycling effort. Students collect and sort recyclable materials on a weekly basis.

Attendance Policy
We encourage students to attend school regularly and provide alternatives for those who miss an excessive number of days.

Parents Are Our Partners

Parent Club
Our Parent Club provides enrichment experiences for pupils including field trips and assemblies and supporting the school environment through the purchase of library books, computers, and playground equipment.

Volunteering
Volunteers provide help in many ways including PTC support, extra-curricular activities, field trips and classroom activities.

Site Council
Parents work with teachers, administrators and support staff to make decisions about staff development and school improvement.

Our Focus For Improvement

School improvement goals will be determined by our Site Council and staff each fall. We continue to emphasize character education and maintaining strong student performance on reading, writing and math benchmarks.
