Built in 1949, Sunrise Elementary School is proudly educating its second generation of Albany children. Located on a spacious 10-acre campus, Sunrise serves students from fast growing central Albany.

Our School Is Proud To Offer:

School-wide Reading Program
Provides comprehensive instruction to develop all aspects of reading skill.

Accelerated Reader Program
Children improve their reading skills while earning points for special rewards.

Reading Mastery
Provides phonics based instruction that helps children learn to read and enjoy it at the same time.

Read Naturally
Improves students' reading fluency. The children love it.

Conflict Resolution Program
An entire school using a common vocabulary and choice options for resolving conflict.

Music, Music
Provides music education to all students three times a week.

Focus Room Program
Provides a special place where children can focus on their school work or on issues that affect their school work.

Library Skills
Provides formal training in library use and on-line research. Students really enjoy this!

Skill-Driven Math Program
Students enjoy math as they learn basic skills with a hands-on approach.

DARE Program
Provides a wonderful drug/alcohol prevention program for fifth grade students.

Parents Are Our Partners

Parent Club
Coordinates many activities for students and our school:

  • Work parties on Tuesdays and Fridays to help our teachers.

  • Two book fairs, a children's holiday store and a major fund-raiser each year.

  • A major landscaping project that will beautify the school and create an outdoor laboratory for students.

Title I/Site Council Advisory Council
Parents work with staff to make decisions about this important program.

  • Increase progress in reading from Kindergarten through fifth grades.

  • Increase progress in mathematics from kindergarten through fifth grades.

  • Ensure that all students use the same vocabulary for peaceful conflict resolution and problem solving.
