Built in 1949, Liberty Elementary School is proudly educating its second generation of Albany children. Liberty shares a 53-acre campus in a residential neighborhood, along with West Albany High School and Memorial Middle School.

(Students will be recognized in September for their hard work.)
Liberty Singers
Provides choral instruction for third, fourth and fifth graders twice a week after school.
Japanese Sister School
Maintains a partnership with a school in Hachioji City, Japan. Students host home stays, exchange pen-pal notes and share work. They will be with us October 19 - 23, 2006.
Reading Lab
Provides intensive instruction for students in Grades 1 through 5. Designated as the host lab in Oregon for the nationally recognized Read Naturally program, this facility uses curriculum and instructional techniques that are based on the latest research.
Green Team
Fifth grade students promote a school-wide recycling effort.
Artist-In-Residence Program
Offers three weeks of art instruction each year for students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
Hands and Words Are Not For Hurting Program
Provides the foundation for discipline management in the classroom and on the playground. Liberty is the featured school in the national promotional material for this program.
Character Education
Serves as one of six designated pilot schools in the state for character education. We emphasize the district's approved character traits and integrate this program into our academic and discipline programs.
Accelerated Reading Program
Motivational reading program to help students in Grades 1-5 improve comprehension.
Business Partnership
Our partner is Washington Mutual Bank. Activities include recycling, a holiday giving tree and weekly operation of an on-campus bank where students may maintain accounts.
Liberty Ringers
Provides instruction and performance opportunities for a student chime choir. Practices are held twice a week. Open to fourth and fifth graders starting October, 2006.
Monday Morning Gatherings (MMG)
A weekly student assembly focusing on character education. This event features skits and songs by classrooms and by student council members from West Albany High School.
Parents Are Our Partners
Parent Teacher Club
Our Parent Club funds our artist-in-residence, covered playground and field trips. Club members also organize service projects and provide classroom support.
Site Council
Parents work with teachers, administrators and support staff to make decisions about staff development and school improvement.
Classroom Volunteers
Homeroom parents and more than 200 volunteers engage in a wide variety of programs.
Fall Fund-Raiser & Winter Carnival
Both of these PTC activities raise money for student and classroom needs.
Our Focus For Improvement
- Increase student scores by 7 points in statistics and probability on the state mathematics assessments.
- Ensure that 100 percent of students understand and demonstrate the district's character education traits.
- Increase student scores by 7 points on the state assessments of reading skill and supplemental assessments.
