Crisis Response Team

Greater Albany Public Schools has been training district staff and responding to district requests for Crisis Response Team (CRT) services since 1994. At present, 92 district employees available to serve in this capacity.

In their regular positions, these individuals are counselors, teachers, secretaries, administrators, behavioral specialists, special education staff, nurses, and family services consultants. They have completed curriculum designed to address such topics as developmental states of grief, pragmatics of crisis response, parent support, media relations, care rooms, special circumstance (suicide, trauma, missing child) communication, and effective listening.

Families and Agencies Coming Together (FACT) coordinates the team and dispatches the responders. Responders for GAPS include: all counseling staff (five elementary and 12 secondary), 33 certified and classified secondary staff, 28 certified and classified elementary staff, four migrant education staff, two nursing staff, three district office staff, and five family services consultants.

Not included in these numbers are our building administrators. Many have completed the course provided by FACT and/or have completed other administrative preparedness classes. Each year a 24-hour class is offered by the FACT team, either at the GAPS District Office or at Linn-Benton-Lincoln ESD. Approximately 300 staff have completed this curriculum. These professionals are willing to provide volunteer services in this capacity, and usually serve three years.

During a typical year, CRT receives three to five requests. Since its inception our crisis response team has responded to district events 67 times.
