Alternative Programs

Program: LBCC (Adult Basic Education/GED)
Purpose: Preparation classes available to students who do not have a high school diploma or who want to improve their basic skills in reading, communicating, computing , and critical thinking.

Program: JTPA/Community Services Consortium GED Preparation
Purpose: Designed to enhance employability and to upgrade basic skill levels of eligible participants.

Student Access Process: HS/MS/CSC (Bill @ 80%) attendance sent to school

Program: Albany Options School
Purpose: An option for individuals whom regular school attendance has become unworkable. Help for students to deal with the issues that make regular school difficult in hopes of eventually returning to their home school.

Student Access Process: Applicant @ school (some expulsions) HS/MS

Program: Home Schooling
Purpose: An educational alternative provided under state law. Requirements are the responsibility of the parent/guardian who chooses this option.

Student Access Process: ESD enrollment & tracking

Program: Home Tutoring
Purpose: To assist in meeting the educational needs of students out for 6 or more weeks, severe handicapping conditions, or expulsion from the regular program.

Program: Therapeutic Learning Center
Purpose: To assist in meeting the educational needs of elementary or middle school students with severe behavior problems.

Student Access Process: I.E.P. Team

Program: High School Independent Study
Purpose: An alternative method for acquiring high school credit. This is not a diploma program but is a way of completing credit requirements in a specific academic area.

Student Access Process: H.S. administrators and counselors (BP & AR guidelines)

Program: CyberSchool
Purpose: Online credit retrieval options available to students who meet alternative education guidelines (working below or exceeding state standards) or who use CyberSchool to enhance an on-site program leading to a high school diploma.

Program: Dual Enrollment (LBCC/OSU)
Purpose: Available to students whose academic achievement in core content areas exceeds state standards and building/department options.
