Thank you for your interest in the Greater Albany Public School District 8J.

Albany is located in the heart of the Willamette Valley just 44 miles north of Eugene, 69 miles south of Portland, and 24 miles south of Salem, Oregon's state capitol. Nestled between the Coast and the Cascade Mountains allows an easy drive to ocean beaches or snow covered slopes.

The city is noted for its vibrant industries, including rare metals, foods and grass seed. Albany also is nationally famous for its preservation of historic homes and neighborhoods. It is home to Linn-Benton Community College and is a short drive from Portland, Oregon's largest city.

The Greater Albany Public School District is the 12th largest in Oregon, with 8,763 students in kindergarten through high school. Serving these students are 465 certified staff, 511 classified staff and 36 administrators. The district covers approximately 154 square miles in Linn and Benton counties.

The Albany School District offers strong programs of character education, self-discipline and peer mentoring for children at all grade levels. Our students outscore the national average and show consistent improvement on both the verbal and math portions on the SAT.

Top notch graduates have earned $1.5 million in scholarships and other academic awards. Our graduates attend the best universities in the region and the world, including Stanford University, Georgia Tech, the U.S. Naval Academy, Washington University, Cornell University, the Rhode Island School of Design and major public and private universities in Oregon.

The district has 20 schools; two high schools, three middle schools, 14 elementary schools and an alternative school. Our experienced and talented teachers average better than 85 percent with five or more years experience, and better than 55 percent of middle school and high school teachers with master's degrees.
