Built in 1962, Calapooia Middle School is proudly educating its second generation of Albany children. Calapooia serves children from Periwinkle, Oak, Lafayette, South Shore, and Sunrise Elementary Schools.

Staff
Calapooia has 38 certified teaching staff, 4 office staff, 16 Educational Assistants, 5 cooks, 3 custodians, 1 Student Services Director, and 2 administrators. One of our staff, Janice Snyder, has just received a Fulbright Exchange to Hungary. She will be teaching over there for a year, and a teacher from Hungary will teach here for her.
Computers
Students have access to over 100 computers, all connected to the internet. Students use the computers before school, during classes, and at lunch. The school library has computer access and an advanced system for information retrieval. Every classroom has at least one computer for student use, and many have more. Calapooia has two thirty station computer labs used for testing and class work.
The Arts
Three levels of band and choir are offered, as well as elective classes in Art, Drama, Family Studies/Foods, and Industrial Technology (shop). CMS offers semester long foreign language classes for Spanish and German.
Leadership
Students organize social events and community service projects for the student body and community.
School-wide Conduct Training
Every student is taught in the schools conduct expectations to prevent harassment and bullying and to foster excellent behavior. The schools BEST team designs these lessons and revises them on a yearly basis.
WEB Mentor Program
Eighth graders provide an organized welcome, instruction in positive character traits, and career awareness for sixth graders entering school.
