Students in the Health Occupations Class at West Albany High School will have considerable training
regarding confidentiality and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA). This is
done before they visit worksites second semester. The need for confidentiality is stressed frequently in
this class. The classroom teacher, a Registered Nurse who often helps teach the class, and representatives
from Samaritan Health Services are all involved in teaching confidentility to the students. This teaching
takes the form of lectures, videos, and tests over what students have learned. The students are also
required to sign a confidentiality statement for Samaritan Health Services and the Albany Fire Department.
We are very aware of the need for training students about HIPPA before they attend worksites.
